On the sexual abuse, exploitation & deception of society and it's children

NEVER AGAIN :: Education

Hundreds of thousands of children passed through orphanages and care homes run by religious orders, including the Christian Brothers and the Sisters of Mercy.

Horrific stories of rape and beatings carried out by sadistic nuns and  brothers went unbelieved and ignored for decades until publication of the Ryan report last month unleashed a national wave of anger.

Eighteen religious orders that negotiated a favourable compensation scheme with the Government in return for indemnities have been forced to agree to revisit the agreement.

The Fianna Fail Government, which yesterday faced a no-confidence motion after recording its worst results since the 1920s last week in council, European  and by-elections, is also under intense pressure to do more for the abuse victims.

"ABUNTANTLY CLEAR"

It is abundantly clear that failures by the Catholic Church in child  protection appears to be widespread, often as a result of ineffective leadership from the highest levels of the institution.

30 years of child protection has taught us that every institution which has employees or members who have unsupervised access to children, and who are in a position of trust and authority, must have the highest levels of child protection policies and rigorous implementation.

The Irish experience has clearly demonstrated that internal monitoring and regulation is inadequate with regards to the institutions of the Catholic Church, and will result in failures to appropriately report offenders - there must be outside monitoring.

There are  currently no less than 4 investigations and audits by the state into Catholic church regions  in Ireland, all of which are uncovering continued failures in child protection implementation and accountability.

The September 1 initiative aim is to bring to the world a definitive solution to the global clergy abuse crisis

"A cult is a belief system which demands your belief and participation so that it may save you from cultish beliefs and customs."

"Only the exploited can see no harm or wrong in the exploitation of children and others - only those who as they gain an understanding of when they themselves have been exploited are able to see the horrors which come as a result of exploitation."
